Children's Mental Health Week
Children's Mental Health Week began with a whole school assembly discussing the importance of children acknowledging their worries and then being able to talk about them. Children in Years 1 -6 took part in creative workshops that sparked questions and curiosity about mental health and how it can affect their everyday wellbeing.
Enabling Enterprise 'Spread the Word'
A group of Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in an Enabling Enterprise Challenge Day hosted by Save the Children. Their challenge was to 'spread the word' about thier host by creating an exciting new mascot.
During Science Month we all took part in a wide range of jaw-dropping science experiments in class, showcased a selection of these experiments to our parents and took part in an unforgettable science workshop. Year 4 went to The Science Museum and we, along with our families, became engineers for the month!
The farm at St Mark's
All pupils from pre-school up to Year 6 enjoyed a visit from Mill Farm where they had the opportunity to meet and care for animals including; lambs, chicks, turkeys, rabbits and goats
Year 2 visit to Hampton Court Palace
Year 2 had a wonderful experience at Hampton Court Palace where they became emersed in historic events with the help of their guides
Book Week 2019
St Mark's pupils had fun taking part in lots of literacy activties during Book Week. Different year groups and shard stories and listened to stories read in different languages from native speaking parents. Year 4 and 5 visited Wimbledon Theatre for BookFest and met authors Frank Cottrell Boyce and Dermot O'Leary.
Year 2 at St Peter and Paul Church
Year 2 enjoyed a visit to a local catholic church where they explored religious signs and symbols. They met the Priest who gave them a tour around the beautiful building.
Year 6 Crocodile Encounters
Year 6 were visited by a number of reptiles including; lizards, crocodiles, snakes and tortoises. They enjoyed holding the animals as well as learning all about their origins, habitats and characteristics.
Year 5 Synagogue
Year 5 visited a Synagogue where they learnt about the Jewish faith. They explored artefacts used in worship and met the Rabbi who gave them a guided tour.
Year 5 Tower of London
Year 5 pupils enjoyed a visit to the Tower of London where they were given a guided tour and investigated artefacts as well as listened to stories from key historical events.
University of Cambridge 2019
Selected pupils from Year 6 spent a day visiting the University of Cambridge. They learnt what it means to be a student at univeristy and how to get there. They all enjoyed a tour of Homerton College as well as workshops and lunch in the Great Hall.
EYFS and KS1 Nativity
We all enjoyed an excellent nativity from Early Years and Key Stage 1 children who performed 'Mary's Knitting' in December to families and friends.
We were very excited to have an inspirational talk from Olympic Gold Medalist Crista Cullen.
Family Learning Project - Under the Sea
For our fourth 'Family Learning Project' we received over 70 fabulous entries including; models, collages, stories, factfiles and posters.
Growing and cooking
At St Mark's we are very proud of the produce that we have grown in our garden which we have then used in our cooking sessions.
Odd Socks Day
As part of anti-bullying week we all wore odd socks to highlight that no two people are the same and that we should celebrate our differences
Diwali Week 2018
We have been celebrating Diwali here at St Mark's by cooking traditional food and visiting the local Temple.
Year 3 visit to the Natural HIstory Museum
Year 3 spent a day exploring artefacts at the Natural History Museum and taking part in a workshop.
Year 4 visit to London Zoo
Our Year 4 class really enjoyed their visit to London Zoo where they had the opportunity to view a variety of animals up close to support their topic learning.
Houses of Parliament
Our Key Stage 2 School Council had a wonderful opportunity to take a guided tour around the Houses of Parliament where they learnt all about the customs of the building and democracy in action.
Year 1 visit to Hobbledown Farm
Our Year 1 class really enjoyed their visit to Hobbledown Farm this term where they had the opportunity to meet, pet and feed lots of different animals.
Year 2 visit to Canons Habitats
Year 2 furthered their understanding of 'habitats' by visiting the Habitat Centre at Canons House.
Year 2 Wetlands Visit
During the Autumn Term Year 2 enjoyed a visit to the Wetlands Centre in Barnes to further their understanding of 'Habitats'.
Year 5 Science Museum
In the Autumn Term Year 5 enjoyed their visit to the Science Museum where they explored and experimented with a variety of concepts around their topic of 'Earth and Space'.
Lion King Theatre Visit
Pupils from Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to watch a performance of 'The Lion King' at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End. They all had a fabulous time and Year 5 are now rehearsing for their own 'Lion King' production.
Family Learning Dinosuar Project
Our Spring Family Learning Project was all about Prehistoric Creatures. We had over 100 wonderful entries and everyone had the opportunity to take a look at them all at our Dinosaur Exhibition.
Parent Learning Classes
Twice a week we facilitate workshops for parents who want to develop their spoken and written English skills.
Year 5 Art Exhibition
Our year 5 pupils took part in an art project. Their work was then displayed in an exhibition held at the local library.
Merton in Bloom
We are very proud to have been awarded a 'Merton in Bloom' award for our outside environment. Thank you to Mr Cullen and our gardening team for all of their hard work!
Pupils from Year 5 had the chance to take part in cycle training where they learnt skills to keep them safe whilst out on the road .
Shakespeare at the National Theatre
Some pupils from Years 4 - 6 had the opportunity to take part in a Shakespeare workshop at the National Theatre on the Southbank. They performed, read and watched Shakespeare plays throughout the day.
National Quiz Championships
Selected pupils from Key Stage 2 took part in the regional heat of the National Quiz Championships. They performed brilliantly and came 5th out of 12 schools.
Each year our Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a weekend residential boot camp. They develop a range of skills including; perseverance, team-work, self-confidence and stamina.
World Book Day
On 1st March we all dressed up as our favourite book characters. Both our competition winners were inspired from Alice in Wonderland - Trevor from Year 4 was the Mad Hatter and Laura from Reception was the Queen of Hearts. Early Years and Key Stage 1 also enjoyed a visit from a published children's author.
Rainbow Cake Sale
As part of Rainbow Week which celebrated inclusivity and diversity, we held a Rainbow Cake Sale. We had over 80 entries and raised over £200.
Black History Month
During October pupils had the opportunity to explore rap and African dance as part of our Black History Month. The children in Key Stage 2 wrote, developed and performed their raps to the rest of the cohort.
